MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Welcome to Amarillo… the Yellow Rose of Texas !

The Amarillo Alumnae Chapter is alive and thriving with DYNAMIC Deltas committed to sisterhood, scholarship and service. The Amarillo Alumnae Chapter was chartered in 1962 and had its beginnings with 12 determined and committed Delta women. Their legacy of determination and commitment continues today. It has been said, “Anywhere you go in Amarillo …you find a Delta working”. Our membership is rich in expertise in the field of education, engineering, medicine, law enforcement, finance, business, social services and technology. As a public service organization, we foster partnerships throughout our community, which contribute to the quality of life in Amarillo.

Members of the Amarillo Alumnae Chapter serve the community of Amarillo in many other capacities and volunteer opportunities. We serve on the following boards and committees:

Several sorors are recipients of community awards in recognition of their individual contributions and commitment to the Amarillo community. Soror Helen Neal was named Beta Sigma Phi's 2000 Woman of the Year and Soror Lisa Cherry their 2004 Woman of the Year. Soror Delores Thompson was honored with the 2000 Woman of Distinction award from the Texas Plains Girl Scout Council and Soror Sharon Johnson received national recognition for her efforts in breast health awareness and education. The Amarillo Alumnae Chapter is a past recipient of the YMCA Community Service Award because of its work with youth. Amarillo Alumnae Chapter was the 2005 recipient of the Amarillo Branch NAACP Community Service Award. This award is presented for noteworthy contributions and services to improve the health and welfare of the African American Community. Amarillo Alumnae was presented this award in recognition of its annual community wellness program. Delta Dears Helen Neal and Lola Whitaker were the 2005 Honorees of the Amarillo United Citizens Forum for their contributions and commitment to the community of Amarillo . The year 2005 marked 25 years of our Debutante and Beau Scholarship Presentation and working with teenage boys and girls in what is know now as our Delta Youth Group.

The Amarillo Alumnae Chapter serves its community well.
